Topic 7 - Media Imperialism

Defination - Media Imperialism

Media imperialism is a theory stating that smaller countries are losing their identity due to the force-feeding of mediamediamedia from larger nations. It can be equated to small community shops closing down due to large superstores moving in, taking over and having a monopoly. As the larger mediamediamediacorporations begin to take over, smaller media companies are either being forced out or swallowed up.

Critical Reflection 1 & 2

In the documentary "The Power of Nightmares" (Part 3 - Shadow in the Cave), the september 11th attack make America lauch the War on Terrorism to against the terrorism. America find a former associate of bin Laden, Jamal al-Fadl, and pay him to testify that bin Laden was the head of a massive terrorist organisation called "al-Qaeda". They use any types of media tools to make their people believe that Islamic country is terrorism, they keep brainwashasing people in order to make people stand in their side for the war. They are using the media imperialism to control people by giving any information which is be favour of them in any media tools. They also make people beliave that all the information given by them is the truth.

After the American invasion of Afghanistan fails to uproot the alleged terrorist newwork, they then extend the war on"terror" to a war against general perceived evils with the invasion of Iraq. In order to do that, once again they using media to justify they have the right to start the war again and again because there are terrorism in others country. This all is just same as the theory of media imperialism, the large country swallowed up the small country. Media imperialism which is too over will casues many problems to people. It also will make people hard to believe in media because people don't know the information is truth or lies, and fake information can be create to deliver to the audience.
