We can see from teenagers nowadays, they using their computer do their homework and information from the internet already become their main references. It is because of this, many people already less go to library to search information for their work. Personal Reflection On Media Culture Class

The documentary is actually too long for me. It make me feel sleepy, I hope that the documentary won't be so long so that i can paid more attention on it from the beginning until the end.

Topic 7 - Media Imperialism

Defination - Media Imperialism

Media imperialism is a theory stating that smaller countries are losing their identity due to the force-feeding of mediamediamedia from larger nations. It can be equated to small community shops closing down due to large superstores moving in, taking over and having a monopoly. As the larger mediamediamediacorporations begin to take over, smaller media companies are either being forced out or swallowed up.

Critical Reflection 1 & 2

In the documentary "The Power of Nightmares" (Part 3 - Shadow in the Cave), the september 11th attack make America lauch the War on Terrorism to against the terrorism. America find a former associate of bin Laden, Jamal al-Fadl, and pay him to testify that bin Laden was the head of a massive terrorist organisation called "al-Qaeda". They use any types of media tools to make their people believe that Islamic country is terrorism, they keep brainwashasing people in order to make people stand in their side for the war. They are using the media imperialism to control people by giving any information which is be favour of them in any media tools. They also make people beliave that all the information given by them is the truth.

After the American invasion of Afghanistan fails to uproot the alleged terrorist newwork, they then extend the war on"terror" to a war against general perceived evils with the invasion of Iraq. In order to do that, once again they using media to justify they have the right to start the war again and again because there are terrorism in others country. This all is just same as the theory of media imperialism, the large country swallowed up the small country. Media imperialism which is too over will casues many problems to people. It also will make people hard to believe in media because people don't know the information is truth or lies, and fake information can be create to deliver to the audience.

Personal Reflection On Media Culture Class

From the class, I understand that media or medium its own is a messages. The media forms can be anything that can deliver messages is known as media or medium. Other than this, i also understand about the hot media and also the cool media. This are the two different media that in our daily life. I started understand a little about media.

Topic 6 - Media Effects

Critical Reflection 1 & 2

Television is one of the mass media that widely use We are The media brings a lot of changes to our society from time to time. We were surrounded by the media and definitely media have its own effect to the society; for example; television. Television is the most common media in our daily life and it is widely use for transmitting messages, knowledge and also information to the audience. Television are also particular as a source of entertainment and news.

According to McLuhan's "Tetrad of Media ", television can be the extend of the eyes. The media effects of the television connect us to view things around the world. Television is a far sight to the audience by just sitting infront it. It also brings others people culture or information to us all the time. Television play inportant role in our daily life and almost all people in the world have their own television in home. By using television, we no need to travel around the world so hardly in order to know what is outside the world. It make our life more covenient. Television already make travel obsolete because we can know things by just turn on the television.

Television make us more knowledgeable and it also bring new lifestyle into our society. People need television for entertainment, news, information and many more. Television already becomes a part of our life. The advertisement, news, information in the television programs keep changing our lifestyle from time to time. Television is the extend of eyes; it already becomes the far sight for the audience.

When the television is over extended for the audience, it will also causes some negetive effects audience. For example, television programs make the audience believe what the they showing in the programs is real, and the audience never go to find out the truth by their own. The audience is too rely on the TV and never explore the world by themself. That will make them be confined to a small world compared to the outside world which is so big and beautiful. They will not realize things from their own experience because all the time they only learn from television. All the knowledge they know is from the television.

In my opinion, media like television has its own positive and negetive effects to our society. So, we must not too rely on the media like television because it will make us lost ourself if we do not use it properly.

Personal Reflection On Media Culture Class

From the lecturer, media stereotypes is like create a certain characteristics to one character or a group of people. It also easily can influences the audiences because media stereotypes is all around us. We surrounded by media stereotypes or can say we influence by it all the time. So, it is a new knowledge for me in class but it is not so interesting because the surrounding feeling on class was bored.

Topic 4 - Media Literacy

Critical Reflection 1 & 2

Media literacy is a teaching method to give us an understanding about media. We can understand media through media literacy when we try to analyze the messages of the media that sending to us. Media literacy encourage us to answer the question on what the audiences can know through the messages of the media or in others form of media. Through the process of media literacy, we can actually understand the basic needed of the media. We can also improve our skills and the knowledge about media messages so we can produced a more effective and a better media messages that can give impact to the audiences. Media literacy is a process where it make us a better understanding about any media forms through a critical anylize the media. Without media literacy, we hardly get improve because we leak of skills when we try to produced a media messages. So, it is important for FCM students to have it.

Media literacy is the process of accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres and forms. It uses an inquiry-based instructional model that encourages people to ask questions about what they watch, see, and read. Media literacy education provides tools to help people critically analyze messages to detect propaganda, censorship, and bias news and public affairs programming (and the reasons for such), and to understand how structural features -- such as media ownership, or its funding model -- affect the information presented. Media literacy aims to enable people to be skillful creators and producers of media messages, both to facilitate an understanding as to the strengths and limitations of each medium, as well as to create independent media. Media literacy is an expanded conceptualization of literacy. By transforming the process of media consumption into an active and critical process, people gain greater awareness of the potential for misrepresentation and manipulation (especially through commercials and public relations techniques), and understand the role of mass media and participatory media in constructing views of reality.

Personal Reflection On Media Culture Class

No class.

Topic 3 - Media Stereotypes

Explanation:
Media stereotypes, it often represent somethings that give audiences a quick understanding or explaining the attitudes, appearances, or certain characteristics of the character.

1. A Conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.
2. A person who is regarded as embodying or conforming to a set image or type.

Critical Reflection 1 & 2

A stereotype is a preconceived idea that attributes certain characteristics (in general) to all the members of class or set. The term is often used with a negative connotation when referring to an oversimplified, exaggerated, or demeaning assumption that a particular individual possesses the characteristics associated with the class due to his or her membership in it. Stereotypes can be used to deny individuals respect or legitimacy based on their membership in that group.

Stereotypes often form the basis of prejudice and are usually employed to explain real or imaginary differences due to race, gender, religion, ethnicity, socio-economic class, disability, occupation, etc. A stereotype can be a conventional and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image based on the belief that there are attitudes, appearances, or behaviors shared by all members of a group. Stereotypes are forms of social consensus rather than individual judgments. Stereotypes are sometimes formed by a previous illusory correlation, a false association between two variables that are loosely correlated if correlated at all. Stereotypes may be occasionally positive.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereotype#Effects.2C_accuracy.2C_terminology

Media stereotypes can have a positive and negative impact on individuals. Most parts they are negative. Many media stereotypes always in cartoons character, and this may influence the young generation through the TV. It may causes the the children or teenagers having an impact on how they view the world because most of the audiences is the children and the teenagers. Other than that, the influence of the stereotypes in cartoons becomes more pronounced in cultures where the society is homogeneous and undiversified. When children and adults have exposure to a range of personalities and cultures, they are less likely to be affected by the stereotypes than in contexts where there were no people of a different social or ethnic class. Media stereotypes can be seen in articles, movies, TV and manymore. Media stereotypes can easily influence all the audiences at anywhere. So, the point of view is up to the audiences.

Personal Reflection On Media Culture Class

The lecturer is good. He explained the meaning of media that make me understand about it. MLC class for me is like understanding the media things and also the way of communication between media information and people.

Topic 2 - Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it?

Critical Reflection 1 & 2

No. It is because what on the internet is not always truth. Some of the information or news on the internet is not actually the truth things or it might be fake. So, i will think first before believe what on the internet. Everyone are using internet to communicate with each others or searching information because internet is worldwide and full of information. Internet is useful but it also causing many problems. For example, people might post somethings that is not real or wrong information on the internet. So, we must be a clever user when using the internet to ensure we get the right information.

Other than that, people also might create some news or rumor that actually did not happen and others people believe on it just because it on the websites. Internet is the fastest way of communication with others people and news can be spread very fast through internet. Any fake news or rumor that posted on the websites will easily make people believe on it. There are too many internet users on this world and got too many information inside the internet. What we can do when using the internet is to think and ratiocinate it before conclude the information or news on the internet whether it is truth or not.

In media culture class, the lecturer are sharing their information with us. They communicate with us to achieve one way of understanding that can make us interact with them without any problems.
But, media culture class is not that interesting for me.

Topic 1 - Social Media

Critical Reflection 1

In my view, social media is affecting our life style and it is not finite. Social media actually changing our life style in many ways. From the video, people are sharing their information to the others and they can interact with each others by sharing their opinion and experiences. Besides that, they also create a way of communication that can brings people together. With different opinion and experiences, they try to improve to make things more better and clear. So, people can easily get the right information.

Critical Reflection 2

Social media is like a network that connecting people by sharing their information in anytime or in anywhere. From there, people can learning with each others and improving. Example of social medie; Facebook, Youtube, Friendster and many more. Social media is around us and influence us everyday. It is making changes in our life and also make us easy to communicate with other people. Social media will getting useful and broad in the future.
